VDOT reports pothole blitz, delayed roundabout work and several repaving projects for Prince George County

VDOT reported filling over 1,000 potholes, discussed a delayed roundabout project with a detour remaining through April, and said milling and paving of Chudova Parkway and other improvements are scheduled this year.
A VDOT representative, Paul Henson, updated the Prince George County Board of Supervisors on March 11 about ongoing and planned roadwork, reporting a recent pothole blitz that filled more than 1,000 potholes in two weeks and outlining several larger projects.
Henson said one roundabout project is behind schedule and the contractor is being assessed damages for keeping a detour open beyond the expected completion date and for missing the substantial completion date. To minimize disruption, VDOT plans to leave the detour in place through April to allow additional contractor time and avoid multiple short-term flagging operations.
He said the Bridal and Jefferson roundabout project is on schedule and noted a temporary traffic signal will be installed at Prince George Drive and Middle Road to manage detour traffic; the temporary signal will be removed after construction when warrants are not met. Henson also said Chudova Parkway is on the paving schedule this year and will be milled and overlaid with up to 4 inches of new asphalt to better handle truck traffic.
Other items included a SmartScale left-turn lane project on Route 416 (Queen Street) scheduled to advertise for construction next month with construction beginning in July and a possible single-lane roundabout at Bridal and Prince George anticipated to advertise in mid-to-late 2028. VDOT said it is starting the secondary Six-Year Plan process with a public meeting planned for May and a resolution to follow.
Board members asked about Golf Course Drive, Pole Run Road and Route 10 conditions; Henson said VDOT is filling potholes as resources permit, that Route 10 is a primary route and a priority, and that staff would follow up with residency staff on the specific local road conditions and scheduling.
