Lebanon School Board approves short‑term lease for storage adjacent to central office

The Lebanon School Board voted to approve a short‑term lease for a storage unit at 511 West Badua Parkway, a property district staff said is adjacent to the central office and includes a loading dock and two offices.

District staff introduced the proposal by saying the space would relieve the current practice of storing textbooks in a classroom at Colesmere Elementary. “We found a piece of property that is adjacent to our central office,” a district staff member said during the meeting, noting proximity and the loading deck as primary benefits.

Board members asked about security, climate control and whether the unit would be used as office space. Staff said the unit includes two offices and two restrooms, and that additional costs would include upgraded locks, network connections and other security measures. One board member raised the possibility of alternatives such as purchasing a building, adding a permanent structure, using county or city space, or even containers; staff said the site would not be an ideal long‑term solution.

After discussion, a board member moved to approve the lease and another board member seconded; the board voted in favor. Several members said they approved the short‑term lease to address immediate needs but requested further study of permanent options.

The board did not provide a long‑term timetable for retaining the space during the meeting. Staff said they would continue to investigate permanent solutions and bring further information back to the board.

Votes at the meeting also included routine approvals of the agenda and prior meeting minutes.
