Forest Lake veterans group seeks $275,000 in legacy funds for Lakeside Park memorial

Senator Karin Housley presented Senate File 18 69 on behalf of the Forest Lake Veterans Memorial Committee, which requested a $275,000 legacy grant to construct a veterans memorial at Lakeside Park in Forest Lake.
Ron Miller, chairman of the Forest Lake Area Veterans Memorial Committee, described the group’s history, its veterans‑paver program (more than 380 pavers sold and documented), and plans for a raised circular memorial area with a bronze centerpiece and sentinel stones. Mark Fineman, the project designer, said national sculptors and a foundry have been engaged and that the pictured centerpiece was a design concept; Miller said the project team recently selected local artists to craft the centerpiece.
Miller said the committee has raised $572,000 so far and that, if the requested legacy funds are received, the project would complete underground work this year and install above‑ground elements the following spring. Senator Housley and other senators expressed support; Senator Herr asked to be added as a co‑author if the bill moves forward. Committee staff recorded Senate File 18 69 will be laid over for possible inclusion.
