Faulkner County assessor requests funds for server upgrade, annual aerial imagery and mapping services

In the presentation, the assessor summarized the county’s mapping products and partnerships. She said Faulkner County’s assessed value on the books is about $2,700,000,000 and described two public-facing mapping services the county now posts: an "AR County Data" site and a free map provided by a contractor she called EFS Edge. She said the county and the City of Conway and other partners share the cost of annual aerial flights; the assessor said partners paid roughly $7,000 each and that the county’s arrangement yields roughly $39,000 a year for the area under contract.
A commissioner asked how the county’s aerial imagery differs from freely available satellite imagery such as Google Maps. The assessor answered that the county flies aerial imagery annually, uploads it into Esri (the county’s mapping platform) and that the county’s dataset is more current and is kept up to date with local development.
The assessor also said recent investments in fiber infrastructure and a new camera system had improved some functions but that remote VPN access remains slow. She asked officials to approve the funding so she can pay for the server replacement and ongoing contracts for the remainder of the fiscal year.
