The sponsor said the bill “updates the procurement statutes regarding the bid thresholds for public works construction projects and procuring personal property and or services in political subdivisions,” explaining the threshold adjustments reflect inflation and rising construction costs and align cities, counties and special districts with state agency thresholds.
The sponsor told the committee the changes are intended to reduce bureaucracy and streamline purchasing, saying the bill “doesn't increase costs [and] it reduces red tape for cities counties and districts.” The sponsor also said similar measures appeared earlier in the session in “house bill 50 52 and 56.”
Representative Fuhrman moved that the committee send the bill to the floor with a due-pass recommendation. Chairman Holtz Clause called for testimony; none was offered. The committee approved the motion by voice vote. The sponsor said they will carry the bill on the chamber floor.
Committee business concluded with a note that minutes will be approved at a subsequent meeting and that the panel will meet at least once more to complete that administrative item before adjourning.
