Queen Anne's County Commissioners approved multiple routine and programmatic items during their March 11 session, voting to authorize public works agreements, letters of support for heritage tourism projects, a college funding request and a statewide mutual-aid memorandum for fire and emergency services. Department of Public Works Director Alan Quimby presented four items the board approved. The county will execute the 2025 mosquito control agreement with the Maryland Department of Agriculture; Quimby said the program budget is $172,000 for 2025, the county is responsible for costs exceeding the state grant and collected user fees (estimated at $122,000), and the county will allocate up to $30,000 for the program under the agreement. Commissioners also approved a fiscal-year 2026 cooperative agreement with the Maryland Department of Agriculture for noxious weed control; staff said the county has a weed-control coordinator and adequate operations budget to meet program terms.
Two public-works connection agreements were approved. In economic and tourism action items, commissioners authorized two letters of support for Maryland Heritage Areas Authority grant applications: a $50,000 non-capital grant for the Chesapeake Country All-American Road project (Navigating Chesapeake and Chesapeake Country Heritage Tourism) and a $50,000 grant request for an agricultural heritage exhibit titled "Harvesting History: A Legacy of Farming." Both letters were approved unanimously.
Chesapeake College requested county approval to use up to $167,550 of fund balance to supplement a 10-year facilities master plan budget; the college had budgeted $75,000 in FY25 and recommended awarding the design contract to Design Collective of Baltimore for a fee not to exceed $242,550. Commissioners approved the use of fund balance.
The Department of Emergency Services asked the commissioners to approve a memorandum of understanding to join the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Council State of Maryland mutual-aid agreement. Staff described the MOU as a new, broader interjurisdictional agreement that includes most Maryland counties, Baltimore City and regional sites such as BWI Airport; commissioners approved authorizing the director of emergency services and the Department of Budget and Finance to execute the MOU.
