Senate committee approves adding Lake County to Indiana Crime Gun Task Force

The Indiana Senate Corrections and Criminal Law Committee voted 6-0 to advance House Bill 1095, which would add Lake County to the Indiana Crime Gun Task Force.
Representative Harris, the bill sponsor, told the committee the task force was created by House Enrolled Act 1558 to coordinate local, state and federal partners and to track and remove illegal firearms. Harris said the task force has “investigated over a 50 leads resulting in the arrest of 232 individuals,” and that members seized “more than 270 illegal firearms and over 75,000 grams of illegal narcotics.” He described the bill as a step toward taking the task force statewide by adding Lake County to the existing eight-county collaboration.
Committee members asked a small number of procedural questions about local participation; Senator Clark inquired whether Allen County had deployed personnel to the task force and was told Allen County had joined previously and that local readiness varies by county. No members of the public signed up to testify. The committee clerk called the roll, and the chair recorded the committee’s unanimous 6-0 vote in favor.
The committee recorded the measure as approved by the panel. No further amendments or public testimony were offered during this hearing.
