Committee extends ground ambulance assessment for another year under Senate Bill 747

NASHVILLE — The Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee on March 11 recommended passage of Senate Bill 747 as amended, extending the ground ambulance assessment for another year.
Senator Yeager explained the bill, saying the ground ambulance assessment was implemented in February 2018 to leverage additional funding for cash-strapped ambulance services. He said the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requires annual renewal of the assessment, which is why the legislature must act each year. “It’s been very successful,” he said.
The bill was moved by Senator Yeager and seconded by Senator Hensley. There was no extended debate. The committee voted by voice and the chair announced the recommendation for passage with 10 ayes.
SB 747 will be transmitted to the Senate calendar for further consideration.
