Council honors Kango Sushi and Yakitori on 10th anniversary

The Toledo City Council on March 11 adopted Resolution 78-25 recognizing Kango Sushi and Yakitori on its 10th anniversary and celebrating the restaurant’s role in downtown Toledo’s culinary scene.
The resolution, read by the city clerk and brought forward by Councilman Sam Melden, praised owner and chef Kango Kato and noted the business’s expansion to additional Toledo-area restaurants. Council members said the restaurant has helped raise the city’s profile and attract residents and visitors.
“Local small business of excellence is what makes Toledo great,” Councilman Sam Melden said as he presented the resolution. Councilwoman Williams thanked the restaurant for remaining in downtown Toledo during years of transition and said such businesses have supported the area’s revival. Councilman Driscoll described how high-quality dining at Kango helped attract residents back to the city.
Chef Kango Kato, the restaurant’s owner, spoke briefly at the microphone and said, “I can’t believe it’s been 10 years,” and credited the local community and his staff for the restaurant’s success.
The council asked the honoree and any guests at the meeting to come forward for a photo following the resolution’s adoption.
