County executive announces secure ID scanning for landfill, assigns MOA review with towns

Supervisor Vega asked whether the system would begin with a pilot or move straight into permanent operation; Shorter replied he believed the county had run a pilot that showed reduced lines but said he would confirm and circulate details via memo. He further said the county can revert to manual checks temporarily if the technology increases wait times.
Shorter also said he assigned a directive from the prior week to the police department and county attorney to review memoranda of agreement with Prince William's incorporated towns regarding use of the Mike Pennington scenario‑based training center. Finally, Shorter told the board that 2025 real‑estate assessment notices will be mailed soon and that the online assessment database will be updated prior to mailing; residents with questions should contact the real estate assessment office.
