County economic development officials report leads from Korea; Korean bank to open near Lakeline Mall

Porter said the county expects an announcement in the coming month that a Korean bank will open near Lakeline Mall in June; he described the bank as having close ties to Samsung and its suppliers and said the bank would be a strong advocate for Williamson County.
Commissioners discussed implications for local hiring and workforce training. One commissioner asked whether companies bringing facilities here would hire locally or import workers; Porter said "probably 90 of those people will be from Williamson County," adding that a small number of managerial staff may be brought from overseas but most operational hires are expected to be local residents.
Officials said the tariff environment is encouraging more manufacturers to consider U.S. sites, and county economic developers reported increased international interest from Taiwan, Korea and other markets. County leaders described local efforts to expand training programs through community colleges and Texas State technical education to prepare a workforce pipeline for advanced manufacturing jobs.
