Council accepts disclosures for two HUD conflicts of interest; members to recuse

The Evansville Common Council on Feb. 24 adopted two resolutions — Resolution C2025.08 and Resolution C2025.09 — formally disclosing conflicts of interest for Councilman Zach Hieronymus and Councilman Courtney Johnson arising from their affiliations with entities that receive U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds.
Colby Jackson explained the HUD protocol: when a council member has an affiliation with an entity that receives HUD funds and the council may approve HUD funding, the relationship must be disclosed in a public meeting. As described, Hieronymus serves as executive director at Aurora (a HUD grant recipient), and Johnson is affiliated in some capacity with Advantix Corporation (also a HUD recipient). The adopted resolutions disclose those conflicts, require both council members to recuse themselves from discussions and votes related to HUD funding, prohibit their signing of HUD-related documents, and direct the city to request waivers or exceptions from HUD where appropriate.
Both resolutions were approved by roll call with eight ayes and zero nays.
