The Evansville Common Council on Feb. 24 voted 4-5 to deny an ordinance amendment that would have moved $175,000 of interest earned on American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to the general fund for a city website redesign.
City Controller Robert Gunter told the council the request would transfer $175,000 from ARPA interest to support a website update and noted the city invested ARPA funds in 2021 and has tracked interest that is not treated as part of the $64.5 million principal award. “We have earned a little over $4,000,000 total since 2021,” Gunter said, and said roughly $1,000,000 had already been approved for 2025 projects.
