The site had been remapped in 2024 as part of a broader community remapping process for the 30th Ward; staff said the parcel was vacant while the owner pursued variance relief before the Zoning Board of Adjustment for use as a gymnasium.
The Planning Commission recommended the bill, saying the change permits the gym use while transitioning a former heavy industrial site to new uses consistent with the North District Plan and Philadelphia 2035. There were no questions from the committee and no vote was taken at the hearing.
