Facilities update: district completes building assessments; rental house may be demolished after abatement

Harper Creek's facilities director reported ongoing building assessments and a plan to convene a steering committee this winter to present prioritized facility recommendations.
The engineering and building inspection work is scheduled to finish assessments in July, followed by internal and external review. The facilities director told the board the steering committee likely will bring recommended priorities to the board in December or January.
Separately, the district provided a status update on a rental house the district owns: the property no longer has a renter, district staff are obtaining demolition estimates and said the district is considering demolition. The facilities director said controlled burn with the fire department was discussed as a cost-saving possibility but noted asbestos abatement and other required hazardous-materials work would have to be completed before any burn or demolition. Staff are obtaining updated pricing for the remaining site work and will report back.
The facilities director also reported work with maintenance and contractors on graduation logistics and noted ongoing coordination with electricians, mechanical and civil consultants in current assessments.
