District administration reported multiple summer operations and curriculum initiatives underway at Harper Creek Community Schools.
The district's summer program had 72 students signed up for the session located at Beetle Lake Elementary and operated extended hours. Summer-school offerings include developmental kindergarten through grade-level programming during weeks identified in the packet (weeks beginning June 9, June 16, June 23, July 14 and July 21). The high school is also running online credit recovery during the summer. The district's summer food program was reiterated as free to all children 18 and under; meals are available at the high school, elementary sites and multiple satellite stops.
Administrators said they are partnering with an outside agency, Community Unlimited, for summer staffing at Beetle Lake to strengthen future grant applications tied to summer programming.
On curriculum, the district reported it uses NWA assessment data (noted in the packet as NWA/NWE) to monitor student achievement and to guide interventions; state testing results are delayed until late fall. Year 1 implementation of a new ELA curriculum is showing some growth, though administrators said substantial implementation work remains. The district is also in an early phase of a K-12 career-awareness initiative intended to expose students to career options before high school course selection.
Administrators said the district will continue social-emotional learning implementation and Tier 1 curriculum rollout next year.
