DHS told the Committee on Human Service that weekend hours at the Downtown Day Services Center will be suspended in FY26 unless the downtown business improvement district (BID) foundation or another funding source restores support.
DHS said weekend hours had previously been supported by a partnership with the Downtown BID and one-time outreach grant funding. “Previously, we were providing weekend hours at the downtown day services center…through their own foundation, the downtown BID was providing some of their funding to support weekend hours. This year, they told us they were not able to do so. We had some one-time funding in our outreach grants that we allocated to being able to support a continuation of weekend hours. That one-time fund is going away,” Interim Director Rachel Pierre said.
When asked how much it would cost to continue weekend hours, DHS estimated last year’s cost at about $1,800,000. Pierre said those services will be suspended in fiscal year 2026 unless alternative funding is secured.
Ending: DHS said it will consult with the BID and try to identify funding alternatives, and agreed to provide an exact figure for the cost of continuation to committee staff.
