Glenn Heights resident asks council to explain missing senior homestead exemption

Gustavo A. Parsons addressed the Glen Heights City Council during public comment to ask why he has not received a senior homestead exemption from the city.
Parsons, who said he is 69 and has lived at 212 Joseph Drive for about 20 years, told the council he had received a homestead exemption from Ellis County but not from Glen Heights. He said he learned from the Dallas County tax office that the city had “taken” his exemption and that he could not find records at the appraisal district office.
“I come here to . . . ask why, as a senior citizen, I don't have the benefits from the homestead exemption,” Parsons said. He told the council he is on a fixed income and had fallen behind on a six-month tax payment schedule.
Mayor Sonya A. Brown said she would ensure City Manager Blackwell receives Parsons’s contact information and reaches out after the meeting.
The council did not take formal action during the meeting; the mayor’s pledge indicates staff follow-up was requested.
