Oakdale City Council voted unanimously on first reading to amend the Oakdale Municipal Code to change the start time for regular city council meetings to 6:30 p.m.
The council action came after a staff presentation noting the code currently lists meetings at 7:00 p.m. and at the wrong address (216 North Third Avenue). Staff recommended correcting the address to 277 North Second Avenue and offered options to change the start time to 6:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m., or retain 7:00 p.m. Tonight’s vote approved 6:30 p.m. as the new start time for regular meetings, with a second reading set for June 16 and the ordinance to take effect 30 days after adoption.
Council members described mixed public feedback collected by phone and in person; some residents and business owners said they could not arrive before 6:00 p.m., while others favored a modest earlier start. One council member said the most common response from constituents was that they could not arrive before 6:00 p.m. and that 6:30 p.m. represented a compromise.
The council noted the change is procedural and that the second reading will finalize the ordinance’s language and the corrected meeting location. No public speakers spoke during the public hearing portion of the item.
