Board accepts donations including $15,000 from Minnesota Vikings for girls flag football; district schedules donor reception

The Monticello Public School District board on Monday voted 6-0 to accept three donations to district programs and libraries, and officials announced a donor and volunteer reception scheduled for June 16.
The donations approved by the board were: $15,000 from the Minnesota Vikings to support a proposed Monticello High School girls flag football program; $5,000 from the Minneapolis Foundation to benefit the Monty Python robotics team; and more than 50 hardcover books valued at about $1,000 from Compass Pest Control for Little Mountain, Pinewood and Monticello Middle School libraries. The acceptance motion was moved by Melissa Curtis and seconded by Casey Root.
Superintendent Eric Olsen said the district has received $190,570 in donations to date and an additional $175,425 designated to the scholarship committee. He said the June 16 donor and volunteer reception will be held in the activity room beginning at 5:00 p.m. and running until 5:45 p.m., with the board asked to arrive about a half hour early to mingle and recognize donors and volunteers.
Board members thanked district staff and donors. The acceptance of gifts was part of the consent agenda and passed by voice vote 6-0.
Next steps: The board will host the reception on June 16; district staff said calendar invitations will be sent to board members and volunteers.
