County clerk warns of delayed state-issued vehicle registration postcards and explains renewal requirements

Oldham County Clerk Amy Elvey told the fiscal court Feb. 4 that reminder postcards mailed by the Kentucky Department of Revenue for vehicle registrations are often delayed for taxpayers with January birth months because the state must wait until Jan. 1 to input new valuations.
Elvey said the Department of Transportation/Transportation Cabinet and the Department of Revenue work with a third-party vendor to send the postcard reminders; the county clerk’s office does not mail them locally. “These are not a bill,” she emphasized. “They’re just a courtesy reminder that comes from the Kentucky Department of Revenue.”
Elvey told residents that if they do not receive a postcard they may still renew in person by bringing their driver’s license, prior-year registration and current proof of insurance. She said February mailings have already begun for February birth months and that the state typically mails reminders six to eight weeks before a registration’s due date.
Elvey said she posted the advisory on the county clerk’s social media page and linked it to the county website. The court had no further action on the item; Elvey’s remarks were informational for the public.
