Don Schmidt, representing the Newberg Boat Club and the Columbia Outboard Racing Association, described the event as bringing racers from Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California, with occasional Canadian participants. He requested permission to allow camping beginning Thursday night for some racers and asked that the event fee be waived aside from publication costs; county staff noted historically a $250 fee for publication has been charged.
The board closed the public hearing after receiving no testimony in opposition and moved to accept the application with the reduced fee. The board also asked the applicant to leave contact information with county staff so parks staff — including parks manager Travis Pease — can coordinate possible on-site booths or fundraising activities and finalize logistics. A formal board order will be prepared and returned to the commissioners for final approval and record.
