Huron OKs $109,660.67 purchase of compact wheel loader for solid waste facility

The Huron City Commission voted Feb. 3 to authorize purchase of a 2025 model compact wheel loader from Butler Machinery Company for $109,660.67 for use by the solid waste department.
Dale Forten, the city's solid waste superintendent, described the loader's role at the new facility: it will be used to push material onto a conveyor belt and to allow stockpiling throughout the day. “This is gonna be used in the new facility to help us push the material onto the conveyor belt,” Forten said, adding the loader replaces previously used skid steers that sat higher and were less suitable for continuous stockpiling.
Commissioners voted to approve the quote and authorize the mayor to sign the purchase; the roll-call vote recorded Commissioner Smith (aye), Commissioner Pine Ridge (aye), Commissioner Harvey (aye) and Mayor Roberts (aye). Commissioner Bragg was not present for the vote.
City staff said the purchase was included in the current budget and that other transfer stations use similar equipment.
