The Huron City Commission voted Feb. 3 to approve a design amendment for the Jersey Avenue drainage crossing, authorizing additional fees not to exceed $27,905 to address unexpected conditions in the culverts.
City assistant engineer Dennis Bennett told commissioners the design team had planned to reuse existing culverts but found them “not in good shape,” requiring additional design work and materials. “We were anticipating reusing them, but they're not in good shape, so this is for the additional design work that will be required,” Bennett said. He recommended approval of the amendment.
The commission voted unanimously to approve the amendment. The roll-call vote recorded Commissioner Smith (aye), Commissioner Weinreich (aye), Commissioner Harvey (aye) and Mayor Roberts (aye).
Bennett said the change will require more work in the river and a change of material; staff described the amendment as necessary to complete the crossing design. The additional fee was described in the meeting as “not to exceed $27,905.”
