The Sulphur City Council introduced an amendment to Chapter 20, Section 35 of the city Code of Ordinances to clarify business licensing for pharmacies and align the local fee language with state law.
City staff said the revision is intended to conform local licensing calculations with Louisiana Revised Statutes governing pharmacy classification and fees; Mayor Dennehy noted the change follows a 2023 state legislative action. The council introduced the ordinance by motion and approved the introduction for further consideration.
Separately, the council approved a resolution authorizing advertisement for bids for ST22‑2 concrete street rehabilitation. Staff said the project has been in development since 2018 and that the bid package lists a set of discrete streets to be repaired rather than a unit‑price, citywide program. Streets named in the bid include Philip Street; Leland; Taylor; Matilda; Cypress; Elizabeth and several intersections and drives listed in the bid packet.
Council members said they may later add streets by change order or rebid if the initial work proceeds satisfactorily. The advertisement set a bid opening date staff announced during the meeting.
Both items passed on affirmative council votes recorded at the meeting.
