Trustees received an update on the John Street tower project and carrier siting. Staff told the board they are reengaging bonding options to fund interior renovations and that the village hopes to move interior work in April. The village plans to build a permanent monopole—about 180 feet tall—on or near the water-tower parcel so wireless carriers can relocate from the existing tower and allow exterior work to proceed without repeated carrier mobilizations.
Officials said four carriers had expressed interest (Dish/Boost Mobile among them) and that AT&T is coordinating the carrier process. The board reported the working plan is to complete colonial-tower work in the near term, get carriers onto the monopole and then complete exterior renovations. Trustees discussed bonding and financing approaches, including longer-term bonds and short-term instruments such as bond anticipation notes, but no final financing decision was made at the March 10 meeting.
Officials said the interior of the tower is the first priority. They noted exterior work will be coordinated with carriers’ moves off the tower to avoid repeated site mobilizations; the exterior phase may occur in the fall or the following spring depending upon regulatory and scheduling factors.
The board said it would continue work with carriers, consultants and the village’s bond adviser and will report back when financing decisions and a detailed timeline are finalized.
