She told commissioners she intends to cover previously committed advertising contracts from her small fund balance but will not cut emergency assistance payments or Meijer food-card distributions, which she said are already partially expended.
Laura said the MVAA director met with her to apologize and described the reduction as a state forecasting error tied to available carryover funds. She said the county’s advertising campaign — used to increase outreach and veteran contacts — will be curtailed to honor existing commitments but that emergent-need funding (the director cited a $75,000 allocation) and $6,000 in Meijer food-card funds were being retained.
Several commissioners suggested the veterans office explore in-kind or donated advertising opportunities and work with media vendors to mitigate the reduction. The committee voted 13–0 to recommend the budget amendment to the full board.
