Jeri Frizzell, who processes liquor licenses and special‑event permits for the county, told commissioners she had a letter from the fair board but had not yet received the sheriff’s written confirmation about security staffing because the sheriff’s office was short‑staffed. The sheriff’s office told the fair board it would attempt random patrols and allow the fair to provide private security wearing shirts labeled "security," but Frizzell and at least one commissioner said they preferred at least one certified deputy or certified officer present for events.
Commissioners asked staff to obtain a written statement from the Sheriff’s Office or alternative certified security arrangements and to place the application back on the agenda in two weeks. The board did not approve the license at the March 11 meeting; the item was tabled pending documentation of security coverage or other acceptable arrangements.
