Fremont County staff report: bridge remains closed, electronics recycling event, material bids, vital records award

Fremont County staff on Thursday presented administrative and clerk reports with revenue figures, local road and bridge updates, an electronics-recycling event and a department award.
County Clerk (name not given on the record) reported total motor vehicle fees, sales tax and recording fees collected for February were $1,184,307.45; Fremont County's portion for disbursement was $619,424.77 (52% of the total), $24,461.60 less than the same month the prior year. Year to date the clerk's office reported being up $62,376.76.
County Administrator Carrochi summarized job openings in county departments, reminded the public the Fremont County Road 120 bridge remains closed indefinitely due to critical damage with no estimated reopening date and announced the county's electronics-recycling event will be Saturday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Department of Human Services parking lot (172 Justice Center Road, Cañon City). Organizers said "anything that plugs in" will be accepted; televisions and computer monitors carry a $30 fee per item. The county said large appliances will be accepted this year for the first time and listed items that cannot be accepted (light bulbs, thermostats with mercury, CO2 detectors, smoke/fire alarms).
Administrator Carrochi also announced the Fremont County Department of Transportation is accepting sealed bids through 1 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at the County Administrator's Office for aggregate, asphalt, tack, dust suppressant and emulsion for 2025 projects. Bidders were reminded to use county bid sheets and provide contact information; the county reserves the right to refuse bids.
Public Health's Vital Records Office was recognized as a recipient of the 2024 Five-Star Performance Award for exceeding several performance standards, including audits, responsiveness and accuracy; commissioners commended the department.
What happens next: County staff will continue to take bids for road materials, prepare for the April 5 electronics-recycling event and keep the public informed about Road 120 bridge status.
