The Tuttle City Council approved purchase of a columbarium for Fairview Cemetery and a companion budget amendment to fund that purchase.
Council members voted to approve buying the unit from Central Burial Vaults for an amount not to exceed $50,000, and they approved Budget Amendment 2025-06 to move $50,000 from the cemetery fund balance into the cemetery capital outlay projects line. The motions passed by unanimous roll call vote.
During discussion staff said the product contains approximately 80 niches, with practical double-depth capacity of about 60 spaces. Staff noted the $50,000 purchase covers only the columbarium unit; site work such as a concrete pad, footings, sidewalk connections, landscaping and seating will require additional contracting and budgeting. Staff estimated total site work and installation could be in the ballpark of $10,000–$15,000 but said they would return with firm contractor quotes. Staff also said the city would update its fee schedule and propose pricing for individual and double niches; examples from nearby facilities were cited, including a private facility that charges $1,700 for individual spots and $3,200 for double spots, which staff said the council could use for comparisons.
Council members asked about capacity and pricing; staff said a future fee-schedule change would be brought back for council approval before spaces were sold. The purchase allows the city to install its first columbarium near the chapel area at Fairview and to consider additional units later as part of a broader long-term cemetery plan.
The council directed staff to obtain site-preparation quotes and to prepare a proposed fee schedule for council review before offering spaces to the public.
