Academic and extracurricular achievements: Shealy noted that Lake Oswego Middle School sent its MathCounts team to the state competition and that one student, Sofia, won the state individual championship and will attend nationals in Washington, D.C. The superintendent also reported success in regional robotics and theater: all five of the district's FTC robotics teams qualified for state and the Lake Oswego High School production of Sweeney Todd was praised.
Music and arts: March is music month in the district and the superintendent encouraged the public to attend concerts and performances across the grade levels. She also acknowledged student artwork displayed in the boardroom from multiple schools.
Childcare and preschool: Champions childcare registration opens March 11 at 9 a.m.; placements are prioritized by returning Champions families, incoming kindergarteners, then new enrollees through March 28. The district plans a change to pre-K hours next year, moving to an 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. schedule; staff emphasized that pre-K families still must provide transportation because pre-K students are not eligible for school bus service.
Staffing and budget advocacy: Shealy said the district faces staffing reductions and plans to publish a list of impacts by April. She also reported a recent meeting with state legislators to advocate for increased funding for special education and high-cost disabilities.
