Kaufman County approves $131,850 supplemental agreement to include two new signals in FM 1641 design

Kaufman County commissioners voted to approve a $131,850 supplemental agreement with the LTRA to add two newly installed traffic signals to the detailed design for FM 1641.

County staff said the right-of-way for FM 1641 has been purchased and utility relocations are underway. Brenda, a county project staff member, told the court that during the detailed-design phase the Texas Department of Transportation installed two signals — one at Monitor and one at Gateway — and the supplemental funds will allow those signals to be included in the construction plans so the project will be correct when it is let for bids.

"As you know, we've done the schematic and environmental and we're finishing up the detailed design on FM 1641. Right away has been purchased and then they're out there relocating utilities. During the time frame of doing the detailed design, TxDOT has come in and put in 2 additional signals along FM 1641, 1 at Monitor and 1 at Gateway. So this money will allow that to include those into our detailed plan," Brenda said.

Commissioner Phillips moved to approve the supplemental agreement; Commissioner Crow seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote.

The supplemental agreement was described in the meeting as numbered item 6 on the agenda and identified as a contract between Kaufman County and the LTRA for $131,850 to amend the FM 1641 project scope and design. No changes to the project schedule or letting date were stated on the record.

A county commissioner described traffic and utility work near the school and flood area as complicating factors, but no further amendments or budget offsets were presented during the discussion. The court did not record a roll-call vote; the item passed on a voice vote.
