Committee approves resolution directing Medicaid to report on pharmacist pay parity

The House Standing Committee on Appropriations and Revenue on Tuesday approved Senate Joint Resolution 26, a joint resolution directing the Department for Medicaid Services (the Medicaid cabinet) to provide the Legislative Research Commission with a report on pharmacist pay parity and the cost of implementation.
Senator Craig Richardson presented the resolution with Ben Mudd, Executive Director of the Kentucky Pharmacists Association, in the hearing room. Richardson characterized the measure as “a simple joint resolution asking the, cabinet for health services to provide a report on cost of implementation of what it would take to, allow independent pharmacies and pharmacists, to provide within their scope of practice, services and be reimbursed, through Medicaid.”
Members had no substantive amendments or extended discussion on the floor of the committee. The committee adopted the resolution and reported it favorably to the full House by roll call with a recorded 20-0 vote; Chair Petrie stated: “Senate joint resolution 26 having received 20 yes votes, 0 nay votes, and 0 pass votes will be reported with favorable expression that same should pass on the floor.”
The resolution does not itself change reimbursement rates; it directs the Medicaid cabinet to produce a research report estimating implementation costs and options for legislative consideration.
Committee action: SJR 26 adopted by committee and reported with a favorable recommendation to the full House.
