Panel OKs expanding filing lines for travel insurance that include health coverage

House Bill 2,046 would permit travel insurance policies that provide coverage for sickness, accident, disability or death during travel — whether exclusively or in combination with emergency evacuation or repatriation coverage — to be filed under accident and health lines in addition to inland marine lines.
Eileen (committee reviser) explained the change as a filing-classification clarification. Senators said the legislation mirrors a model enacted last year and would improve availability and classification of travel insurance for Kansans who purchase coverage that includes health-related travel risks.
The committee adopted an amendment to require publication in the Kansas Register (moved by Senator Gossage and seconded by Senator Arderbright), then moved House Bill 2,046 as amended out favorably by voice vote (motion moved by Senator Gossage, seconded by Senator Fagg). A Senator asked how many "shells" (mirror/companion bills) this change might create; the reviser said the total count was not yet determined because additional companion bills had been requested in the House.
