The Oakland County Register of Deeds demonstrated MyPropDocs, a new e‑recording portal for non‑conveyance documents, and the committee recommended acceptance of a FY25 Michigan eRecording grant to support the service.
Oakland County’s Register of Deeds demonstrated a new electronic recording portal called MyPropDocs and the Government Operations Committee voted March 11 to recommend acceptance of a Michigan Electronic Recording Commission FY25 eRecording grant to support the service.
Register of Deeds Lisonbee Brown described MyPropDocs as a county‑operated portal (mypropdocs.com) that lets users submit non‑conveyance documents — such as affidavits, association liens and releases — electronically. Brown said the service is intended to be more affordable and secure than third‑party vendors. “For less than the cost of overnight mail, you can now securely submit a document to our office electronically,” she said in a recorded demonstration shown to the committee.
How it works: Users select Oakland County on the portal, receive one‑time passcodes via text and email, upload a photo of an ID and the document pages, and pay recording and convenience fees before submission. The portal charges a $20 convenience fee in addition to the statutory $30 recording fee; the office said typically e‑filed approved documents are processed and returned by email within 24–48 hours.
Brown said the grant funding is a one‑time opportunity: the specific state grant program sunsets Sept. 30, 2025, and the county applied to secure funds while the program remains available. Committee members asked about the fee structure, the difference between the county portal and third‑party vendors, and whether schools or out‑of‑state users could submit documents; Brown said successful submissions have already been received, including from an out‑of‑state builder.
The committee voted to recommend acceptance of the FY25 eRecording grant; the recommendation will go to the full board for final approval.
