District outlines facility and technology upgrades including camera coverage, cabling and projector removal

Facility and technology staff presented routine but systemwide projects to the committee on March 10 that include updating school security-camera coverage, running category-2 cabling upgrades and removing aging classroom projectors.

Director Liggins said the security team is conducting building-by-building analyses to identify blind spots and recommend camera placement; those design details will not be published publicly for security reasons. The committee was told the next school scheduled for a camera review is the preschool.

Technology staff described a cabling project to update network infrastructure and a projector-removal plan: many classroom projectors are old, require expensive replacement bulbs and sit on top of interactive boards; staff said removing the projectors and installing new display-signage and whiteboards will improve classroom functionality and reduce ongoing maintenance costs. Staff said installations will occur when students are not in classrooms where possible.

Committee members asked whether removal of projectors would reduce instructional options; staff said replacement signage and whiteboards would be appropriate for most classrooms and that a small number of usable projectors would be retained as spare equipment for special uses.

Separately, staff summarized ongoing small-field and fence projects and said capital funds have been budgeted for required work. The committee did not take formal actions on the items but approved forwarding standard procurement items to the consent agenda for future board consideration.
