Collierville awards $153,287 contract to repair Steeplechase Park spillway

The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen on March 10 approved a contract award to Alexander Construction for the Steeplechase Detention Spillway Improvements, the town engineer said.
Town Engineer Dale Perryman told the board staff began noticing leakage under the concrete spillway in 2024 and that water in Steeplechase Lake had dropped two to three feet. Perryman said the work would require demolition of the existing spillway, construction of a cofferdam, installation of 50 feet of new concrete pipe for the emergency spillway, and reconstruction of a wider spillway to allow equipment access and routine maintenance.
Ten vendors requested plans; bids were opened February 24. Perryman said one bid was nonresponsive. After evaluation, Alexander Construction was the lowest responsive bidder at $153,287.08, about $15,666.92 lower than the next lowest bid. The contract requires completion within 60 days and includes liquidated damages of $800 per day. Perryman said any remaining project funds will be returned to the town’s stormwater account.
The board moved, seconded and approved the contract by roll call: Miss Marshall, Mister Stamps, Mister Robbins, Mister Hall, Mister Jordan and Mayor Frasier voting yes.
