Council fills seats on housing ad hoc committee and updates board representation

The Simi Valley City Council confirmed several representation changes to local and regional boards and appointed a council member to the Housing Solutions Ad Hoc Committee at its March 10 meeting.
Staff explained the housing ad hoc committee — created Dec. 16, 2024 — is a time-limited body to study emergency shelter options, funding, zoning and partnerships related to homelessness and housing solutions. The death of Mayor Thomas left a vacancy on the committee; Mayor Pro Tem Mike Judge volunteered to serve and was confirmed by unanimous council vote.
In a separate but related item the council reviewed and approved an updated list of council member assignments to standing boards and regional agencies. The staff report (attachment A) listed primary and alternate appointments; among the changes noted on the dais Council Member Joseph Ayala was assigned as primary representative to the Americans with Disabilities Act committee, the Regional Defense Partnership and the Ventura County Regional Energy Alliance, and as youth council liaison. Council members discussed alternates for commissions including the Simi Valley Council on Aging and the Animal Services Commission before the council adopted the slate by unanimous vote.
Council members asked staff to update official rosters and notify external agencies of the changes. The actions were taken by voice vote and recorded as unanimous.
