District staff told the board they plan a targeted summer-school program for preschool through second grade from June 2 through June 26, with students attending from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program would prioritize students flagged as needing support in reading or math and would be funded with at-risk funds.
The proposed cohort is about 66 students: roughly 11 preschoolers, 20 kindergarten, 20 first grade and 15 second grade. Staffing would include four teachers and four paraprofessionals, with school-nurse coverage for students who need health support. Breakfast and lunch would be provided. Invitations would go to students identified through the district’s FastBridge winter screening data, and the district said it would include additional students if spring testing identifies more pupils in need.
Staff noted the program is smaller in scope than past multi-grade efforts and is designed to focus resources on students who are most likely to benefit. No formal board vote was required; staff said they would proceed with planning and bring any budgetary decisions to the board if additional funding requests are needed.
