The Mount Shasta City Council on a unanimous voice vote adopted proclamation CCP-25-01 declaring April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and designating the first week of April as the Week of the Young Child.
Allison Skoll, representing the Siskiyou Child Abuse Prevention Council Collaborative, spoke to council members and read the proclamation, outlining local activities and emphasizing protective factors and adverse childhood experiences. After the presentation, councilors asked no substantive questions, and a council member moved to adopt the proclamation; another seconded the motion and the council voted aye with no opposition.
The proclamation encourages residents, community agencies, faith groups, medical facilities, elected leaders and businesses to join prevention and support efforts for children and families. Staff recorded the proclamation as CCP-25-01 for the city’s records.
No formal public opposition or amendment to the proclamation was raised during the meeting.
