The Sioux Falls School District Board of Education completed a series of routine and substantive actions during the meeting, including approvals of minutes and policy revisions and a motion to enter executive session.
The board approved the minutes of the Feb. 24 meeting after a motion and second.
The agenda and the consent agenda were approved by motion and second. The supplemental consent agenda (items A1 and A2) passed with one recorded abstention; the meeting minutes record the chair or presiding member noting the abstention but do not name a different board member as the source.
The board approved the assignment of school board members to represent the district at the Board of Equalization sessions next week. The schedule posted online was accepted with two small changes: board member Kelly took an afternoon session that had been unassigned, and Gail agreed to take a Wednesday morning session so another member could retain an evening slot.
On policy, the board approved ten reviewed or revised policies and their accompanying regulations as presented by the policy review committee. The policies and the stated revisions were: - BEDH, public participation at school board meetings: clarifying language regarding speakers providing their address. - EE, transportation services: updates to contractor responsibilities related to routing technology. - EFEA, supplemental food sales: minor change to sodium guidelines. - EFI, food services records and reports: removed specific Head Start references now covered by the National School Lunch Act. - JCA, assignment of students to school (open enrollment and nonresident students): adjustments for an online application. - GBED, JICG and JK: updates to explicitly reference nicotine outside vaping devices across tobacco and discipline policies. - KE, public concerns and complaints: minor timeline change allowing the superintendent additional time for investigations when warranted. - JIH, student searches: no changes.
A motion to acknowledge the transportation services report and a motion to acknowledge the legislative update were also approved.
Finally, the board voted to move into executive session under South Dakota Codified Law 1-25-2(2). The minutes record motions, seconds and unanimous "aye" responses for multiple items but do not list roll-call vote tallies by member name for most items.
