Brentwood Middle School wins third consecutive Schools to Watch recognition; district highlights transition supports

Brentwood Middle School was presented to the Greeley Evans School District 6 Board of Education after receiving a third consecutive Schools to Watch recognition for middle school excellence.
Principal Nicole Peterson told the board the award recognizes schools that meet criteria for academic excellence, developmental responsiveness and social equity. Peterson described classroom literacy focus, writing initiatives, IB and AVID programs, and efforts to ensure students experience a strong culture of learning.
Peterson highlighted transition programs for incoming sixth graders including a jump-start initiative, eighth-grade web leaders and a tradition of delivering cookies to every incoming sixth grader’s home. She said the school maintains high extracurricular participation — noting 11 girls registered for spring soccer, 66 boys for soccer and 69 students signed up for track — and reported 72% of students had at least one activity last year.
Eighth grader Amora Villanil described school supports and involvement in sports, speech and debate, student council and NJHS and said she felt welcomed and prepared for high school.
Board members congratulated the school and asked about participation rates and the upcoming state middle-level conference Brentwood has been asked to host in the fall. The board and district said they will support the school’s invitations to present at state conferences and the district will assist with logistics for a state visit in September.
