The Annapolis City Council presented a City Council citation on March 10 to the Eastport Volunteer Fire Company and IAFF Local 1926 for their work creating a Heroes Memorial Park at the Eastport Fire Station.
Council members praised volunteer labor and partnership between the volunteer company, career firefighters represented by IAFF Local 1926, community fundraisers and city public works. Captain Dallas Lister, who led the station during the project, said it was a four‑year effort involving community fundraising, volunteer labor and design help from Bay Ridge Landscaping.
Lister told the council the project ‘‘cost about $175,000’’ and said funding came from community grants, state grants and city contributions. He described the memorial as a focal point for the Eastport community and noted improvements such as brick walkways and a City-built sidewalk on Jefferson Street.
The council applauded Captain Lister and the volunteers and presented the citation in recognition of the project’s contribution to honoring first responders and improving public space.
