Board approves $40,000 annual RTI International subaward to support student health and safety work

The Chatham County Board of Education approved a subaward agreement with RTI International that will provide $40,000 annually for up to five years, funding-dependent, to support district efforts on health education, health services and safe and supportive school environments.
Tracy Fowler, senior executive director of student services, told the board the RTI collaboration will analyze current district programs and interventions, identify evidence-based strategies aligned to district priorities and provide technical support. Fowler said the funds are intended to be flexible for staff training, community events and related work and that the award is structured as $40,000 provided annually over the next five years “as funding allows.”
Motion and vote: A board member moved to approve the RTI International Subaward Agreement “as written.” The motion carried on a voice vote with the board responding “aye.”
Why it matters: District leaders said the project will support Strategic Plan Priority 2 (student health and safety) by helping the district assess current systems and adopt evidence-based practices related to family, school and community engagement.
Implementation: The senior executive director of student services will serve as the district lead; staff said the funds will be used for training and community engagement and that the agreement includes technical assistance from RTI.
