Superintendent Dr. Darrow told the school board the district emailed parents and staff and posted details on its website after a breach of PowerSchool; district says it does not yet know what data was accessed.
Superintendent Dr. Darrow told the Enid Public Schools Board of Education that the district notified staff and families after its PowerSchool student information system was breached.
Dr. Darrow said the district emailed staff and parents earlier in the week and posted a notice and guidance on the district website. “PowerSchool was, breached and some of the information was breached. We're still unsure exactly what information the hackers obtained, but we have sent that information out,” Dr. Darrow said during the superintendent’s report.
The district made the incident notice accessible from a tab on its website, Dr. Darrow said, and asked anyone with questions to consult that posting. He added that staff and families had been informed in the district message and that district leaders were working through next steps. “I'm not making excuses for PowerSchool by any means. I just also think this is becoming our new reality, in the world we live in,” he said.
A district staff member present at the meeting confirmed the district had posted resources and would make additional information available as it becomes verified. The district did not specify during the meeting which specific fields of information, if any, were accessed by the attackers.
District officials urged parents and employees to check the district website for the posted notice and guidance and to contact district staff with questions.
Less critical details: the notice is available on the district website under a dedicated tab and staff said they would keep the board informed of any new findings.
