Commissioners plan updated survey of Bridal Rigby House after rezoning pause

Commissioners discussed the Bridal Rigby House and the prospect of a new survey on March 10 after staff said a rezoning applicant had paused the process while reviewing staff comments.
Donna, the staff liaison, told the commission that corrections and comments were returned to the property owner and that the rezoning effort had “slowed” while those comments are addressed. She said the city did not expect rezoning to move quickly in the near term.
Commissioners said they planned to re-survey the property once access and owner permission are secured. Commissioner Feeney and another commissioner said they intend to perform a site check about a week after local storms, noting that the 2014 survey found the house “not necessarily in shape to be landmarked.” Staff said the updated information would determine whether landmark nomination is appropriate.
Commissioners and staff emphasized that a property owner’s permission is required for interior access: “If they’re not home, I can’t go inside, but I can surely walk around,” a commissioner said during the discussion. Staff advised that a preliminary commissioner-led inspection can be followed by a consultant-led, full survey if the commission decides to pursue a landmark nomination.
The commission also said a more complete survey is useful as a standalone record even if a rezoning application does not move forward.
