City to Reimburse County Up to $815,000 to Reconstruct Midwest Boulevard Mile

The Edmond City Council on March 10 approved a mutual cooperation agreement with the Oklahoma County Board of County Commissioners for reconstruction of one mile of Midwest Boulevard between Covell Road and Coffee Creek Road.
Keith Stewart, director of public works, told council the city will reimburse Oklahoma County — District 3 — "100% of the cost to reconstruct this mile of 2 lane road." He said the estimated not-to-exceed cost is $815,000 but staff expects bids to come in lower. "The estimated cost is a not to exceed 815,000. The estimate is a little bit high. We think it's gonna come in quite a bit lower than that," Stewart said.
Stewart described the project's scope: stabilize the base, establish roadside drainage, replace culverts as needed, and construct a 5-inch asphalt pavement with shoulders, sod and striping. Work is expected to take 45 to 60 days, up to 90 days in adverse weather.
Stewart also reviewed the city's long-running partnership with Oklahoma County on road reconstruction east of I-35. He said the city and county have reconstructed about 54 lane miles under the partnership at a historical cost of about $12 million.
Council members approved the agreement; staff said maps and project status are available on the city's website.
