Council OKs Engineering Contract for $14M Main Street Stormwater Project North of Edmond Road

City engineer Steve Lawrence said the drainage area dates to 1907 and lacks modern stormwater detention, which contributes to repeated flooding "Several homes and businesses flood in the area. And this approximate and this approximate $14,000,000 construction project is planned to be built in 3 phases," Lawrence said.
Lawrence told council the project would remedy existing flooding and address runoff from future redevelopment. The work will include design for detention, conveyance improvements and construction planning; the construction program is expected to be delivered in three phases.
Council members asked for staff comments and then voted to approve the engineering design contract. No individual vote tallies were specified on the transcript.
Staff said the design work will guide later construction phases and help ensure the city can address both current flooding and redevelopment-driven runoff in the corridor.
