Becky Mader, assistant superintendent for human resources, presented a district human‑resources update on March 20, 2025, reporting recent hiring activity, benefit take‑up and safety and discipline work.
Mader said the district has hired 11 new certified teachers and 58 classified employees so far this school year. She reported that 53 employees have used a newly adopted five‑day paid parental‑leave benefit the district added as part of retention efforts. Mader said the HR office recognizes staff milestones and noted two certified staff at Derby North with 40 years of service and a classified employee with 30 years in multiple roles.
On safety reporting, Mader said the district’s anonymous reporting system (Speak Up / p3) generated 16 tips this school year, with more received since the packet was compiled. Regarding discipline, she said implementation of a secondary‑level discipline matrix has coincided with 17 fewer student‑discipline hearings compared with this time last year and that the district is exploring applying a similar matrix at the elementary level.
Board members praised staff recognition posts and asked for more detail on elementary discipline‑matrix drafts; Mader said elementary handbook representatives and principals are reviewing a draft and the item will be brought forward with handbook revisions this spring.
