Southeast Tech student literary magazine earns 'rating of excellence' from NCTE subgroup Realm

Laura Cruz and Patrick French, faculty involved with Southeast Tech’s new student literary magazine, told the board the inaugural issue received a "rating of excellence" from Realm, a subgroup of the National Council of Teachers of English.
"We submitted this last summer. And then just last month, we received notification that the magazine met the qualifications for a rating of excellence," Laura Cruz said, calling the recognition "pretty exciting" for a first year publication. Patrick French said the magazine provides a creative outlet for technical‑college students and can serve as a portfolio piece for graduates entering digital media or design jobs.
Cruz said the magazine had a 100‑copy printed run last year and is also available online. Editors plan to publish an annual issue, citing student workload and available submissions as limiting factors. "Our plans right now are, due to time constraints and also the availability of student works having an annual issue," French said.
Board members praised the project and the presenters offered to provide copies to trustees.
